I just got my first bento box, and I am so excited to try! For my first bento I am going to do some spicy crab onigiri along with some tamagoyaki-style egg bites (egg that’s beaten and made with same ingredients then steamed in silicone muffin liners) steamed edamame and some teriyaki chicken bites.

I have a bento-related question that I’ve been itching to ask for a long time: Are wooden/bamboo bento boxes commonly used in Japan? They are not microwaveable and I’ve always thought that it’s more convenient to use lunch boxes that are microwave-safe because you can always choose to not microwave some dishes (e.g. cold soups, pasta salad etc).
