Hi Theresa! Thank you for reading Nami’s post! Traditional Donabe are designed to be used on a gas stove. However, if you have an induction-compatible Donabe, it will also work on an induction cooktop or an electric stove. Hope this helps!

Does the ceramic Donabe, like the Hario brand), need to be used on gas stove? I have an electric stove.

Hi Cindy! Thank you for reading Nami’s post and for trying her recipes. We’re so happy to hear you love them!
Regarding the cooktop, if your glass cooktop has an electric coil underneath (not induction), it should work fine. Just be mindful of the heat level, as it can get hot more quickly than expected. A portable gas burner is also a great option and works very well.
We hope this helps, and happy cooking!

I have a nabe pot I love but now have a glass cooktop. Can I use the pot on this or continue to use it on the portable burner?5 stars

Hi Mars S! I’d be curious what type of donabe you have. My updated site’s comment box doesn’t accept uploading images anymore. Could you please email us with a picture of the instruction you’re talking about? This way, we can make sure 100% as I’ve seen different types of donabe from various regions and kilns. If it’s made of clay, soaking is usually not recommended, but maybe it might be coated or used different materials. Thank you!

I decided to cook in it but the instructions said to first soak it in water overnight, then dry, then do medome. But I’ve read that you’re not supposed to soak it in water for too long. I am so confused. Do I soak overnight or not?5 stars
